Creating A Historic Look for Main Street With Trees

The Zelkova was chosen for its beautiful vase shape and its similarity to the traditional Elm trees that once lined East Aurora's Main Street. This tree is not related to the Elm, and therefore is not susceptible to Dutch Elm Disease. Compare it with the historic photo below.

Main Street Reconstruction

The East Aurora Tree Board worked closely with the New York State DOT Landscape Architect to design a plan for the replanting of Main Street's trees. The look is based on this historic photo of Main Street looking East from the viaduct. Photo courtesy of the Town Historian.
